Christmas in the Office

Christmas is a distraction anyway you look at it. I don't think I'd be any better off in a home office like JoAnne and Susan, because with my kitchen down the hall I'd want to bake or I'd want to wrap presents.

Here at the office I've been playing Christmas music since before Thanksgiving.

December 1 started off our stocking gifts. Everyone in editorial and marketing hangs a stocking on their door and takes turns leaving a small gift in them.

December 9 we had our company Christmas party catered at a secluded lodge. The menu was mainly Italian food. Most all employees attended with their spouses.

Speaking of food, nearly every day some new food shows up either as gifts or from someone's home-baking experiments.

Three of our departments that are located in cubicles had a decorating contest last week. They went all out. Some even wrapped their cubicles in Christmas paper, ribbons, and bows. The trade customer service team won. Individual cubicle decorating was also judged. Did you know that a bookshelf could be made to look like a fireplace? It was fun to see and to enjoy the treats set out to the bribe judges.

In Sales business, we are going over the Christmas 2009 product list and preparing the reps with information so they can start selling those the first of the year already.

In Editorial business, we are starting to aggressively fill in the 2010 list of books. Spring 2010's product list will have to be finalized before we know it. There will be lots of meetings the first of the year for this.

We are also feverishly working on our schedule so that we don't fall behind on work while away for the holidays and so that we are off to a good start in 2009.

The office will be closed down the full week of December 22. I, personally, will be taking some vacation time the next week, so that I'll be out of the office two full weeks. I'm not sure I'll be in the mindset to stop by and blog. So in case I don't have another opportunity -- have a very merry and blessed Christmas celebration wherever you are and however you choose to do it.

No matter how we decorate it, bake it, wrap it, gift it, or even write about it, may our celebration of Christ's birth be something He would be happy to be a guest at.

Becky, I am not the least bit tempted to sneak into the kitchen or wrap presents! :-) We're just a week away from Christmas, yet I've not one bit of decorating, wrapping, or baking. My evenings are filled with helping my dh with drywall and other construction-type chores as we frantically work to complete our basement remodel into an apartment for Kim before the other kids invade for the holidays. Carpet installers come on Monday. . .and THEN the tree can go up. LOL
I look forward each morning to walking into my office and closing the door on the chaos and mess that constitute the rest of my home right now. Even so, I anticipate Christmas and the celebration of Christ's birth, when I'll be surrounded by my precious family.
I expect a marvelous time will be had by all. . .with carpet or without. Hope you enjoy your holiday, too!

Okay, I'll admit I'm tempted to leave and go bake and wrap and other stuff--and I have so much that I need to do, it isn't even funny!

But I sit here in my basement office with the space heater on. The cat is sprawled on the desk behind my laptop. Occasionally, she peeks around it and swipes at me while I type. The dog comes and goes, begging for hugs and playtime.

My hubbie is out in the family room watching TV. No temptation there...!!

Wow, I'm such a good little girl. See how hard I'm working? (Like, I'm checking blogs at the moment?!) I'm only still sitting here because I have a huge e-proof due on Friday. Once it's done, I'm outta here! For a day or two, anyway! (Don't worry, JoAnne, I know...there's that review, too!)

Merry Christmas, Becky! Enjoy your time off.

I do work from home now and usually don't feel tempted to stop writing and bake, but the last two days were different. Yesterday was a snowy day and bread in the bread machine beckoned. Fifteen minutes tops and I was back at my desk. Today I've been working but now I must stop and make cornbread for a Bible study chili supper and Christmas celebration. LOL

Have a Merry Christmas Becky, Susan, and Joanne!

Merry Christmas, Becky and thank you for leaving us with that wonderful thought...to make our celebrations something Jesus would be pleased to attend.

I am definately going to keep that thought in mind as the Christmas festitives approach.

If I had a home office, I'd never get out of my jammies. They're so much more comfortable than my work clothes! And on snowy days, who wants to get dressed and go into work? Not me...but a librarian's got to do what a librarian's got to do.

Merry Christmas! And in the great words of Tiny Tim, "God bless us every one." (He does anyway!)

I have been one of the people here baking and taking the goodies to mum at the hospital.
