Picking through the Proposal Piles...

…can you say that tongue twister five times fast? LOL! Today I’m picking through my electronic piles of submissions, and I’m feeling overwhelmed by them. I have so many good ones! My contemporary pile seems especially high, so I thought I’d get the word out that if you've submitted a contemporary for Heartsong, it may take awhile for me to get back to you. I have plenty of great historical proposals, too, but not as many, so the competition isn’t quite as tough in that category.

It’s definitely a challenge to find a great story idea that will put a new spin on a classic romance format in just 45,000-50,000 words. So if you want your proposal to jump out at me from my stacks, please try to wow me with a great summary that reads like back cover copy. If a short summary of the story doesn’t grab my attention, I’m not all that anxious to dig deeper into the full proposal.

And as a follow-up from my post last week, I’m excited to have a new niece on the way. My nephew, Jake, was wrong about a brother named Isaac. However, with a little Veggie Tale persuasion (some might call it bribery), Jake has decided a baby sister won’t be too bad. The boy is completely obsessed with all things Bob and Larry--so much so that every time he’s at the grocery store he wants to visit the produce aisle for a tomato and cucumber to play with! So, Jake’s mommy told him that a sister would probably love the new Princess Sweet Pea play set (one of the few things he does not have in his vast Veggie Tales collection), and he can get it for her and play with it until she's ready to. :)

Who doesn't love Bob and Larry? :) Good luck on your search through the proposals!

My daughter was determined that her sibling on the way would be a boy. No amount of discussion would sway her 3.5 year old mind.

Now, 15 years later, I often remind her that she prayed for, nay demanded! a little brother, and she has no one to blame but herself if she finds him occasionally pesky or trying. :)

I'm glad they're best friends.

And Veggie Tales rock! :)

What a monumental job you and Becky have! I've been praying for you, that God will give you wisdom as you wade through piles of proposals, that He'll use you as His vessel to bring stories to fruition in HIS time and place.

I'm sure your girls will love having a girl cousin to play with!
