Introducing Anthony Barkett

Today, we have Anthony Barkett, Inventory and Logistics Analyst, here to tell us more about himself and his job at Barbour.

How long have you worked at Barbour?
Three years

What do you do in your current role at Barbour?
I get to work with book printers from all over the world. I arrange delivery of product directly to our customers and also to our main warehouse. I assist the warehouse with order fulfillment too.

What brought you to Barbour?
After my summer internship with Barbour Publishing, they offered me a position right out of college. It’s been a great fit. I enjoy the company atmosphere, and the tasks are always challenging.

What interests you about the publishing industry?
To be truthful, I think I’m the only one at Barbour that doesn’t enjoy reading books. But I do find several things about the industry interesting. The book printing process has been fun to learn. It all starts with an idea, then we design the book, pair the right text stock and cover material and send it to a printer. The logistics aspect of shipping books, warehousing them and filling orders are my favorite aspects of the business. I also enjoy meeting and communicating with people from other countries that print our books.

Family/Home Life?
I have eight brothers and sisters, all younger then me. Growing up, we had some very interesting pets. I can remember cats, dogs, turtles, fish, geckos, ducks, a snake, a guinea pig, hamsters, mice, finches, horses, rabbits, and even goats. Needless to say I have a very active family life. Something new is always happening.

What’s your favorite vacation spot?
I love going to Disney World in Orlando Florida. I’ve been there 7 times, and the excitement and magic never gets old. My favorite rides are Space Mountain and Splash Mountain.

What are your hobbies?
I love taking things apart to find out how they work. I can’t wait for something mechanical to break so I can bust out my tools to fix it. I’ve picked up Origami, the art of paper folding. I’ve created many different things including animals, flowers, boxes and modular origami that can take over 75 sheets of paper for one model. Here is one of my favorite sites for finding new things to fold. http://origamitube.com/

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
My brother and I have already talked about this. He is much more adventurous than I am, so he is planning a trip for us to go to Spain to witness the pamplona encierro, or running of the bulls. He is thinking about running with the bulls too! I am not that brave.
Thanks for sharing with us, Anthony!

Anthony, my son is enamored of the origami videos. He loves to take things apart and put them together too.

Thank you for all you do to get Barbour books into the hands of readers around the world.

It's fascinating to learn about all the different people and talents involved in getting a book in the hands of readers. It's great to "meet" you, Anthony!

It's so nice to feel like we're meeting the "behind-the-scenes" folk at Barbour that we might not otherwise ever get to meet or learn what goes on over there! Thank you, Anthony, for sharing about your job.

Nice to meet you, Anthony. Welcome to the Barbour family. I would love to see--not prun with or from--the bulls, too.

As someone who also has eight brothers and sisters, all younger than me, I had to leave a comment on this post. :)
