A Humbling Reminder

I’m scrambling to get everything done before a week away visiting family and attending the Colorado Christian Writers Conference. I had the best intentions of being efficient and organized today, but nothing seems to be going according to my plans. I’m frustrated about that and feeling more than a little stressed right now. But God brought these scriptures to mind awhile ago and gave me a humbling reminder: “Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that.’” James 4:13-15

Like me, is this something you need to apply to your life today? Are you boasting in your own plans rather than God’s plans? His might be different than what you think they should be, but they are always the best. We must focus on His will, not on our own. And since He’s perfect and we’re not, I think that’s a pretty good plan! :)

My trusty freelance content reviewer, Rachel Overton, made me a framed artwork reminder that sits beside my computer on my desk. It says:
JoAnne,
Trust me. I have everything under control.
Jesus

I’m so very glad He does!

Thanks for sharing that verse, JoAnne. My husband got laid off for the second time in five months, so we are definitely in a time of trusting God and waiting to see what path He takes us down.

Jesus knows our comings and our goings, when we will succeed and/or fail.

In the hectic rush to get things done, I just try to keep my head above water, and utter a prayer (about every 5 minutes!)...

Lord, help me to accomplish my tasks with cheerfulness and clarity. And when things don't go as I planned, help me to remember and accept that everything is in Your will!

Still, it's hard to get it all done, especially with a baby in the mix. Praying you have a safe, enjoyable, and productive trip.

Great encouragement, JoAnne, and way to go, Rachel. Love her to bits for her content reviews on my books. She's awesome, and even better for framing that bit of assurance for you. Solid reminder that Jesus is watching over us.
