Step up to the Microphone

This week we'd like to encourage all of our shy and quiet readers to step up to the mike and comment. If you have NEVER posted a note before, we want to hear from you now. All you really need to do is say "Hi," but we welcome your thoughts on anything relating to this blog and the publishing business. When did you start following the blog? What draws you back?

Posting a comment is worth a bundle to you. That's a chance at 2 book bundles that will include 4 books each: A Bride So Fair by Carol Cox; Florida Weddings by Lynn A. Coleman, Kristy Dykes, and Kathleen E. Kovach; 365 Daily Devotions from Favorite Hymns by Daniel Partner; and Student's Guide to the Bible by Stephen Miller. We'll keep the comments open through Sunday, April 20, and draw winners on Monday.

UPDATED 4-20: And our 2 winners of book bundles are CP and Donna Robinson. Please email me your mailing address at editcafe@barbourbooks.com so I can send you your books.

Hi --
Guess I'm one of the shy ones. I've been lurking around since about January of 2007 -- kind of a weevil in the woodwork.

I found this site by God's accident (I don't believe in coincidences) and I keep coming back because I'm fascinated by the insight into the minds of editors and by the inner workings of the publishing business.

Keep up the good work!
Blessings,
Cindy

I really enjoy reading The Edit Cafe. I've been reading it about a year, and it's one of my favorite Lurking Sites. (Every week I take about two hours to lurk around 15 or so sites about writing.)

It's interesting to see the inner workings of a publishing company, especially since I've been accepted as a Heartsong author. (My book will release next February.) Thanks for all the hard work you do, and may the Lord bless you as you serve Him.

I discovered the blog in December. An aspiring author, looking for an updated states list, I did a search and found this site. Unfortunately, I found it a month after I sent in my submission, with a state already taken (I'd be happy to set the story in a different state Mrs. Simmons). I keep coming back for the tips offered to writers. The blog has been very helpful.

Hi from Georgia! I guess I'm a "lurker" and read but don't post!(oops! I think I did post once about a precious pic of Jodi!). I discovered your site about 3 months ago and love it (for the advice, updates, and pictures of little Jodi, of course!).
Blessings, Patti Moore

Even though I'm a nonfiction writer, I enjoy reading fiction. So I learn a lot from your blog.

I often just drop in and read. I'm signing in this time.

Thank you for all the valuable information.

I'm also a lurker! As an aspiring author, I find it helpful to be able to see an editors point of view on different topics.

Thanks for all the insight and information!

I'm a lurker from Florida. I started reading this website after the ACFW conference (September 2007) to learn more about the business of writing. I’m working on a cozy mystery.

Thanks for taking time to write these posts. They not only teach the business, but also remind me that each of you has distinct likes and dislikes in what you want to see in manuscripts.

Here to learn,
Sandy Dennison

Another lurker here. I found your blog through a link - don't ask me where. I've come back time and again, enjoying the articles and glimpses behind the scenes.

My mystery/suspense novel is being professionally edited. I'm hoping to secure an agent at an upcoming writers' conference.

Please enter me in the book contest. Thanks.

Blessings,
Susan

What's not to like? I began reading when you first started.

Two reasons I continue to drop in:
1. I like the way you choose a new author at ACFW conf every yr.
2. You're editors; we learn a lot!

Guess there's three: you're downright interesting. LOL

I am a lurker part of the time, then sometimes I do write.

In my opinion, this is one of the best learning sites around. I have learned so much from all of you and I have recommended this site to my critique group.

I have not been on for a while, but now it is another experience each day. There was a time when you girls gave instructions on writing and publishing which I found very helpful.

I just finished my first work. I am excited about the process to follow.

Keep on doing what you are doing. You help all of us on the road to publication.

I've been lurking for a few months. I have been part of the Heartsong Presents book club since its inception, I believe. My mother signed me up as a birthday gift in the early 90s, and I've been getting books ever since.

I wrote to Vera Lee Wiggins one time about her book, "Llama Lady," mentioning that I wanted to be a writer someday. She immediately asked to see some of my writing and began mentoring me. One of the most poignant moments in my life was when her husband called me about a year after her death saying that he found my writing and asked if it was all right to keep it.

Thanks to Vera's suggestions and encouragement, I am now a full-time writer, working as Managing Editor for the Coalition for Quality Children's Media--KIDS FIRST! and doing other freelance work.

My goal is to someday write for Heartsong Presents. I just drafted my first romance novel, and a friend of mine told me about this blog. I am studying it during my re-writes, looking for tips on what you all are looking for :-)

Hi,

I come to your blog to understand how editors think about manuscripts. Also, I find it encouraging that you are all real people who talk about babies, being time-challenged at home and taking vacations. You seem to be "like me" but you happen to be editors.

I always feel more hopeful about publishing after I visit. You often share information helpful to my career. You are realistic about how tough it is to
"break in," without being mean about it or having a condescending attitude.
