Introducing. . .ASHLEY SCHROCK

Don't let her laid-back personna fool you! Between those earpods, one highly creative brain lurks and works. This week, I'd like you to meet the Barbour graphic artist who, among other tasks, is responsible for cover development for our HPMysteries! SKD

Title/Position/responsibilities at Barbour: Graphic Design Coordinator--I oversee communications between our freelance designers, design some covers of my own, and a couple others things here and there.

How long have you worked at Barbour? A little over 2 years.

What is your favorite task associated with your job description? Least favorite? Favorite--Designing stuff of my own. Least favorite--I've been sitting here trying to figure that out, and I'm not sure. I really love what I do. Probably just the little things that pop up here and there and distract me from what I'm trying to accomplish that day.

What project is consuming your energies this month? I don't usually have one huge project I'm working on but a lot of smaller projects, so it depends on the day. Today I've been working with the artist who does the Heartsong Mystery covers and also sketching out some cover ideas for titles coming up on our next pub list.

Do you ever find time to read for pleasure? If so, what book have you read recently? When I do take the time to read it's usually from a design magazine of some sort. The last book I read was most likely something by Ted Dekker. He's a favorite author of mine.

Can you tell us briefly about your family? I have a mom and a dad and two sisters. Currently single, but looking. If you have any nice sons, brothers, nephews, etc. my number is 555-6733 (Just kidding. Don't really call that number. You'll probably get China.)

What church do you attend? I currently do not attend one particular church, but I'm looking. The last one I attended was The Chapel in Green, which I liked a lot, but it was just too far away.

Do you have a favorite quote that motivates you these days? I recently found a quote by William Wilberforce in our To Live Free book that said, "Above all, let us guard against the temptation, to which we are all susceptible, of lowering our standards to match our lives, rather than raising our lives to match our standards." It's been serving as a good reminder to me ever since.

Hmmm. Ashley, I have a 28 year old son who is a graphic designer. He's still looking, too.

If you'll send me your e-mail address...(Grin)

Nice to "meet" you Ashley. Your job sounds exciting...no wonder you don't have anything you dislike about it.

I love the covers HP Mysteries is coming up with, so fun and sharp.
You're doing nice work. Are they ??? paintings? Computer generated? Altered photographs? I remember the Murder in the Milkcase cover, with a hand in the milk case, I think we had it as a sample at the ACFW conference, and Susan said the hand looked severed and Barbour was going to put a ... sleeve of shirt cuff or something on it and I don't quit understand how you ADD things like that.

But I don't understand a lot of things...so no surprise there. :)

Still it seems really cool.

Wow, fantastic quote, Ashley! I think I need to print that out and post it in my office. So nice to meet another of Barbour's talented staff!
