Editors Need Vacations Too!

I'm preparing (it seems to take weeks to prepare) to leave on one week of vacation, so I'll rarely be online for a few days and out of the office Friday afternoon until Monday the 24th.

Puppies have to go to a sitter for a week. Two of my brothers with their families, my mother, and I are packing up and heading to Virginia Beach, where my sister has rented a very large beach house for all of us plus some of my brother-in-law's family. It is a milestone in my brother-in-law's life as he retires from the Navy after 24 years.

When I get back, I hope the snow piles are gone and spring is in full force. I've already seen a few robins, and I have daffodil shoots coming up. Soon it will be time to cut grass, and the next vacation I take will be for planting my garden. Wow! Time sure flies.

Have a blessed week.

Becky,

Have a wonderful trip and please, please bring back some spring warmth back to Ohio with you. Like you, there are a few brave birds beginning to sing and a few plants beginning to poke their heads up.

Okay, this has nothing to do with your post, but I just had to vent. See, here's the problem with buying books from you Barbour people.

I got this huge stack of books the other day. You know, my first shipment from the mystery club. And those eight books have been sitting on my desk, mocking me while I proofread this puzzle book with crosswords from...you know where!

So this morning, I couldn't stand it any more. My hand just...reached out and took one. And before I knew it, I was halfway through Finny's Nose.

How am I supposed to proofread when you send me things like this to tempt me away???!!

(And if you haven't gotten your shipment yet, I have to say, I love the Finny's Nose title. It lends itself to so much comedy!)

Okay. Back to work now. Really!

(Have a great trip, Becky. Takin' any books? No, ones for fun, not work!)

I do have manuscripts I'll likely throw in the car. I have a mystery I'm halfway through. Then there is a Kingsbury book I've been meaning to read. I may need a suitcase just for reading material.

ooooo! Kingsbury--which one?

Kingsbury - Between Sundays. It isn't in a series, so I may be able to get it read. My mom got hooked up in a series that was at least 8 books long. I can't commit to that.

Between Sundays is a good book, Becky. You should enjoy it. She does a good job with connecting her readers to her characters. Which is how she can get away with an 8-title series.

I really enjoyed the Redemption series, but the Firstborn and Sunrise series...not so much. Frankly, I think these last two "spin-off" series could have been done in one or two books each. I've stopped buying and am reading library copies. Her stories are still good, I just feel like some marketing person decided to wring as much money out of buyers as possible. The stories are way too stretched out for my liking (and wallet!). I still buy her stand-alones though. As soon as I see them! :-)

And that's an honest reader for you. Anyone else read her and feel that way?
