Take Me Away

Did you miss me while I was away? This past weekend, David and I made a whirlwind trip to Kansas City to meet our new grandson. Oh my, friends, pictures simply do not do this boy justice. So expressive. And smart. Naturally.

Of course, we hated to see our time together end. I can only imagine how much Corbin will have grown the next time we meet face-to-face. So after we'd passed through security at the Kansas City airport and found a quiet, out-of-the-way spot not too far from our departure gate, my husband and I each settled into our own cocoons of escape. . .David on his cell phone, and me with my nose buried in a good murder mystery.

I'd just stumbled across another victim, when my husband jumped from his seat and nearly gave me heart failure. "Look what time it is," he exclaimed. "We may have just missed our flight!"

Sure enough, as we approached the attendant at the jetway, we could see our plane heading for the Tarmac.

It took some heavy-duty sweet talking and finagling to get the gate attendant to book us on another flight home without charging us $100.00 in change fees. (She admitted to not calling our names before they closed the plane's door, so she bore a miniscule share of the blame. At least--er-hum--to our way of thinking.)

When was the last time you were so caught up in a great book that the real world around you faded away, and you found yourself living and breathing in a fictional world? While I love to discover authors whose stories transport me to that special place, I do hope you learn from the error of my ways. At least sit close enough to your boarding gate to hear when your flight is called.

Hi Susan,
Your granson is a doll! I love that photo! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hmmmm....last time I was really caught up in a book would be when I read In Search of Eden by Linda Nichols. I love her writing, and that is a good story.
Blessings,
Carrie T.

Susan, what a sweetie. You looked like you were his adoring slave for life. Congratulations.
Books are always dangerous for me. I end up staying up too late then am exhausted the next day. Such a compulsive reader.

Congratulations on your new grandson, Susan!! He's a sweety pie.

The last book I read that sucked me in good was To Love Anew by Bonnie Leon. It's the story of a destitute English woman who gets sent on a prison ship to Australia. This was an unusual setting and an emotional story, especially the horrible time the heroine was on the prison ship.

Awww, looks like love to me! :)

Hmmm...the last book that caught me up and got me into trouble was Brandilyn Collins' Coral Moon. I try NOT to read too quickly, but into the story I go. :)
