Summer Itch

Yes, Sunday I got deer fly bites that really itch, but that's not the kind of itch I'm talking about. I'm thinking . . . TRAVEL. With plans being made to go to ACFW conference in September and Susan out enjoying the open road right now, I feel the itch to travel somewhere. I've also got a map that I'm trying to get filled in. (See in the image are the gray states I still need.) But I'd really enjoy seeing another country too.

Last year I added Nebraska, Iowa, and New Mexico to the state map, but I doubt if I get anywhere "new" this year. I'll have to settle with traveling through books. I just finished reading a story set in Massachuesetts, which sent me off on a research of history of the area outside Boston. What fun! Gives me the start of an itch it get back into some writing of my own.

So, what is your summer itch?

(You are getting my Wednesday post early due to the fact that I'll be out of the office tomorrow at a sales meeting. I don't have any fancy tech gadgets to allow me to post away from a computer. I don't even have high speed Internet at home. Yes, I'm that behind times.)

Becky, my family spends a lot of time boating on the Missouri River every summer. We use the boat to lure my grown daughters up to hang around with us, and it works pretty well. :)
We spend Saturday and Sunday on the river and are planning another fun weekend for Father's Day.
It's so beautiful. My daughters all ski like a dream, my husband too. I came to it a little too late, (and old) and couldn't ever get it. But I love watching. I love just floating on the river, talking, sunning, watching the river bank go by. It's just like Huckleberry Finn, only with a handy marina, a 125 horse motor, cash in my pocket and an air conditioned home to go to, should I get tired of nature.
But other than that, it's just like Huckleberry Finn.

Becky, I'd love a trip to the ocean! but like you I'm not traveling much this year. Next summer James and I are going to the ocean for our 25th anniversary.

I've ALWAYS loved the beach, and I'm about 5 hours from the closest one here in TX. I don't count the lake. :) This summer will be Washington DC for us, and a short side trip to VA. Then in Nov. my sister is getting married, so we'll be in the north of Boston area. :) Next year, though, I hope we make it to the beach again. I bring a whole stack of books, my comfy sand chair and umbrella, and enjoy. :)

Interesting question, Becky! This past weekend I went to Minneapolis and St.Paul and visited an art museum and the historical society...and the Mall of America, of course.

I love seeing places that are different, but I also treasure those which I know and hold dear, which is one of the reasons I tend to go back to the old-and-familiar.

Right now a gem-hunting show on the Travel Network has brought out my treasure-hunting side, and I think I may do that next year.

Anyone ever see anything on TV about GPS cache hunts? Not sure what show I saw it on, but it sounds fun.

I stayed in a hotel Wednesday night, and that was enough to remind me of one benefit of not traveling. I love my own bed and bath.

I saw that show! It sounded like it'd be a hoot to do...as long as there weren't mosquitoes, ticks, or rattly snakes.

Did I just limit myself out of GPS caching?

Becky, we've already blown our real summer vacation in April. We took a 10-day camping trip to Arkansas for a diamond-hunting trip. We looked for 4 days and had a lot of fun...but no diamonds. Did anyone hear about the 13-year-old who found a 2.93 carat diamond there last week? It was worth thousands of dollars. She found it just laying in the dirt beside the service road into the fields.

Here we were digging 4-foot holes (which was really most of the fun)and if I did find a diamond, it was too small for me know any better. :-)

I should have found that diamond that was just laying there. After I fell out of our camper and about killed myself (there's a reason why Grace isn't my middle name), I spent a lot of time looking at the ground while I walked. Sigh!

So, Janet, let that treasure-hunting side of you come out. Give Murfreesboro, Arkansas a whirl. I think those gem-loaded pre-bagged sources of dirt in Georgia might be next. :-)

I did hear about that girl. What luck! I heard the family plans to sell the diamond. Free money!

Beth, that's exactly the trip we want to take--but of course I want to find a diamond like that lucky girl!
