Bygone Lifestyle in Modern Times

"Somewhere between the Amish and mainline protestant churches lay the Old Order Mennonites, fascinating in their own right and with many stories to tell." says Jamie Driggers for Armchair Interviews.

This is a good way to describe the characters in Kim Vogel Sawyer's new Sommerfeld trilogy. The premier book, Bygones, releases in April. Kim hails from Kansas where she has set her fictional community of Sommerfeld.

Widower Marie Koeppler and her grown daughter Beth reluctantly return to the Mennonite community Marie abandoned twenty-three years ago. Soon after their arrival in Sommerfeld, a series of mysterious thefts raises the community's suspicions against the "outsiders." Can Marie prove their innocence, or will she be forced to flee once more? Henry Braun thought he'd gotten his love for Marie out of his system, but soon begins to wonder if she's stolen more than his heart. When it's all said and done, can Henry and Marie let bygones be bygones, or has their love been doomed from the start?

Romance is not my first choice in books, but if Kim Vogel Sawyer's name is attached, I'll grab it, knowing I'll get a good read. In her second novel Bygones, and the first of a trilogy, Sawyer doesn't disappoint. Reviewed by Ane Mulligan for Novel Reviews

Kim Vogel Sawyer’s lyrical voice sings of love lost and love regained. Her shining words illuminate how God forgives all who fall short. Excellent, heartwarming read!

This was a quick and enjoyable read. I can't wait for the next installment in the Sommerfeld trilogy!

As a Kansas girl myself, stories set in the Sunflower State always catch my eye. The fact that Kim Sawyer is a gracious woman, and a terrific writer are happy bonuses.

I have loved Kim's other books. She has a real talent for crafting characters that shine and make you care deeply about them. Where Willows Grow is next on my TBR and Reviewed pile.

I love a story set in a simpler world, don't you? It's like taking a vacation from the hectic-ness of life. Which, isn't that what reading a book is supposed to be?
