Email Excerpts

“You could probably hear the shrieks in Ohio! I am so excited...and passionate... about these stories. Thank you so much for this opportunity. WOW!”

“JoAnne!! I’m so thrilled I can barely type!! Thank you so much…. Right now, I’ve gotta go scream!!!!!!”

“I just received your e-mail and must tell you I am overjoyed! This news will definitely make my Christmas even more joyful and blessed!”

“I'm very excited to be able to work with a company I've admired for years. And, yes, this makes for a VERY merry Christmas!”

“You made my day, and my week! And of course, my Christmas this year. What a wonderful present to receive your email last night after getting home late from work.”

Did you guess by now that these were all from excited new authors receiving news of their first or second contracts? I love these happy responses! In fact, after sending out good news about a contract, I wait eagerly for the delighted, often ecstatic, reply from the lucky author. After that I look forward to the new relationship we will form as we work to make the story the best it can be. So far, I’ve loved the enthusiastic, eager-to-learn attitudes that my new authors have shown, especially since I’m still a bit of a rookie myself and we can learn some things together. :)

Whether you’re working on your first or your hundredth book to be published, may you never forget the thrill of that first contract, and may you never lose that positive, teachable spirit.

(Thanks to you authors whose emails I quoted from. I’m sure you’ll know who you are!)

I experience that same feeling each time I get a "yes." Thanks, Barbour, for publishing opportunities. I sincerely appreciate them. I love writing for you, because I sooo believe in your publishing philosophy and the books you produce.

I love hearing what people do when they experience that 'first call.' A friend of mine had a mouthful of peanuts when she answered the phone. Needless to say, they went everywhere! :) When I got my call, I was surrounded by boxes and packers. We were moving to Sugar Land, TX. In fact, I was so stunned my agent said, "Aren't you excited?" I think I disappointed her. Next time I'm going to scream, dance and praise the Lord!

I'm still grinning like crazy. And ready to dive back in time to 1942 and 43. Can't wait!

I'll never forget Mary Connealy and Cara Putnam's "calls" at ACFW conferences, JoAnne. What fun! I hope Barbour keeps announcing contracts at the conference. It's SO exciting...even when I don't have a submission in the pipeline! lol
